Plans to build 5,500 new homes in Britain’s first true ‘eco-town’ in Bordon looked likely to fail due to the British Army’s refusal to cease firing on its 250 hectares of land surrounding the project. Army officials told the Bordon Argos ‘we’ve just got the latest Mitrailleuse gun and intend to fire it all over the place until 2014’.
Surprisingly, both local and national government have permitted the planning application for the homes within the firing zone and have agreed with the Army that all contractors and construction material deliveries will enter and leave site under white flag conditions. Upon purchase of property, this condition will cease.
Purchasers of the properties will enjoy virtually carbon neutral dwellings built to the highest standards in a gated community with professional, fairly well equipped security operatives although leaving the property at any time of the day or night before 2014 may result in their being taken out by an Apache helicopter or ‘Smart Bullet’.
Free recycling to local authority schools in Reading is a semantic play as it stands. It relies on funding by either the Council Tax payer or the value of materials sent to reprocessors or both.
Firstly, why should we fund the alleged recycling in schools by Reading Borough Council who has already been caught out reporting fake/exaggerated recycling statistics when they were really landfilling the vast majority of collected ‘red bin recycling waste’ from the domestic sector.
RBC switched to a fleet of gas powered dustcarts for an outrageous amount of money and then found that they couldn’t be towed back when they frequently broke down which cost us more money in maintenance than a ‘normal’ municipal waste collection vehicle – that’s bad management.
Secondly, the resale value of segregated recyclables, apart from clothes, would never fund the collection of them in today’s commodity markets.
Reading Borough Council should not be automatically given the ‘Contract’ to operate ‘free’ recycling services anywhere – it’s not possible, and if it was it wouldn’t be by RBC which is currently run by incompetents in my opinon.
Following on from a fellow bloggers piece (hello Oranjepan), in 2008 I worked for a company that was ‘hit’ by a tagger. The company had new equipment literally covered in tags by one arsehole which it had to spend over £2k on getting the paint removed before being able to take said equipment to another job.
The tagger was eventually caught ‘red/yellow/blue/white handed’ and the court awarded the company five pounds compensation to be deducted at a rate of fifty pence per week from the taggers benefits.

WELL DONE PIERRE
A big thank you to Pierre, Jean Paul, Luc and Marco, the four Froggie fishermen for starving Britain of goods over the last few days - that's not 'French' at all is it?
