Free recycling to local authority schools in Reading is a semantic play as it stands. It relies on funding by either the Council Tax payer or the value of materials sent to reprocessors or both.Firstly, why should we fund the alleged recycling in schools by Reading Borough Council who has already been caught out reporting fake/exaggerated recycling statistics when they were really landfilling the vast majority of collected ‘red bin recycling waste’ from the domestic sector.
RBC switched to a fleet of gas powered dustcarts for an outrageous amount of money and then found that they couldn’t be towed back when they frequently broke down which cost us more money in maintenance than a ‘normal’ municipal waste collection vehicle – that’s bad management.
Secondly, the resale value of segregated recyclables, apart from clothes, would never fund the collection of them in today’s commodity markets.
Reading Borough Council should not be automatically given the ‘Contract’ to operate ‘free’ recycling services anywhere – it’s not possible, and if it was it wouldn’t be by RBC which is currently run by incompetents in my opinon.
