Plans to build 5,500 new homes in Britain’s first true ‘eco-town’ in Bordon looked likely to fail due to the British Army’s refusal to cease firing on its 250 hectares of land surrounding the project. Army officials told the Bordon Argos ‘we’ve just got the latest Mitrailleuse gun and intend to fire it all over the place until 2014’.Surprisingly, both local and national government have permitted the planning application for the homes within the firing zone and have agreed with the Army that all contractors and construction material deliveries will enter and leave site under white flag conditions. Upon purchase of property, this condition will cease.
Purchasers of the properties will enjoy virtually carbon neutral dwellings built to the highest standards in a gated community with professional, fairly well equipped security operatives although leaving the property at any time of the day or night before 2014 may result in their being taken out by an Apache helicopter or ‘Smart Bullet’.
