When Irish paramilitaries were blowing innocent members of the public to bits, they were urged to accept the ballot over the bomb. Sinn Fein took the challenge and today legally and democratically represent a large slice of the Northern Irish people.

Regardless of what you think of Mr Adams and his possee, respect is due to their adoption of democracy and their willingness to adhere to ‘the rules’.

What message is the UK sending to disenfranchised Brits who feel forgotten and second class citizens in their own country when Nick Griffin and the BNP are treated like lepers and banned from the Queen’s garden party?

I happily admit to a right leaning in my political views but not to the extent of voting BNP and I would be honestly gutted if anyone who knows me called me a racist (anonimous commenters don’t count). People who are ignored find other outlets – Oranjepan thinks the same about taggers and has a point – banning the BNP in an official or ‘wink wink, nudge nudge’ manner is a mistake.
