READING BOROUGH COUNCIL CAUGHT CHEATING

Reading Borough Council is the worst council in the United Kingdom when it comes to land-filling the waste they’ve collected from households pretending that they were going to recycle it.

In days gone by, Britain was often referred to as ‘the dirty man of Europe’, some would say due to our apparent fear of soap and water, others because we simply didn’t recycle and preferred instead to hide our rotting rubbish under three metres of soil prior to building on it and calling it Bracknell.

Ever keen to wedge his fat snout further up the European Union’s bottom, Gordon Brown has rightly been increasing the landfill tax burden in an attempt to make recycling a necessity through cost as opposed to a nice idea to impress your customers and the City.

Every recycling scheme is only as good as the people using it. Contamination in one container can lead to the rejection of an entire load from a MRF (Materials Recycling Facility) instead sending it to landfill. For this reason, everybody has to play ball.

Councils across the UK have been fining people in their droves for not recycling properly; Reading Borough Council in particular has been extremely active in issuing clean up demands, fines and various other s62 notices under the Environmental Protection Act to people who are not playing the game.

Reading Borough Council laughably claims to be recycling 35 per cent of the Borough’s waste. What they mean is that they collect 35 per cent of the Borough’s waste in the pretence of recycling it but then only bother sorting 10 per cent, preferring instead to landfill 90 per cent of what the good people of Reading have taken the time to wash, segregate and sort. There really is no better way to destroy any belief in recycling than by this sort of cheating by a council.

No doubt, now Reading Borough Council’s incompetence has been outed, bearing in mind we are talking about a council who is too thick to phase traffic lights; the fines collected from residents for bad recycling will be repaid – well, 90 percent of them anyway.
