The Co-operative supermarket group has announced plans this
week to regenerate the failing brand enabling it to compete with its larger
rivals.
The company has named ten stores throughout the country it
intends to lavish money on which includes the one in Tilehurst.
No expense will
be spared on the refits which are promised to include: new linoleum throughout,
new Formica fascias, fluorescent tube lighting and electronic cash registers.
In competition to Nectar and the Tesco card, the company has
also hit upon an ingenious customer reward scheme where shoppers can collect
green stamps at the checkout which can be redeemed against a coffin from the
Co-operative undertaking division.
