In these times of recession and austerity we’ve seen many
companies vanish from our high streets. All of them had one thing in common;
they were shit – Woolworths, Jessops, Comet etc have followed the well trodden
path of previous dinosaurs – gone and good riddance.
Rather than weeping over the demise of badly run companies
that no longer had a right to be on the high street we should all be
celebrating and looking forward to the next corporate failure; companies such
as Staples Office Supplies, W H Smith, The Co Op and Home Sense, you all
deserve to fail because you’re shit too – goodbye – make room for a charity
shop.Companies such as Morrisons, John Lewis, Moonpig and Whitbread can succeed in this money strapped environment because they’re well run, they make spending money easy and enjoyable and they adapt to changing times. Call it austerity, recession or depression, we needed this spring clean and I look forward to hearing that other local restaurant chains like Nino’s have gone soon.
