MENTAL HEALTH

A young girl gets stabbed to death on a bus on her way to school by a person known to the authorities as having mental health issues. A woman gets virtually beheaded in a shop by a person known to authorities as having mental health issues. Another woman gets run over and killed etc etc.

Police, social services and other ‘authorities’ acknowledge that there were failures and lessons must be learned from the deaths.

Not good enough – people are dead and you, the ‘authorities’ are more responsible for the deaths than the person that held the knife. The fact that they’re going to prison for thirty years is irrelevant to the relations of the person you allowed to be murdered and prison is not where anyone with mental health issues should be anyway.

We should send the person to prison that signed the release form; the person that ignored the telephone calls from the unstable patient saying ‘I’m going to kill someone’ the cry for help. Make them responsible for the death they caused and maybe we’ll see a bit more attention to detail.
