Welcome to Reading, centre of Berkshire and most important town to the west of London before people start talking with a bumpkin accent – orrroight.

Now included in the sixteen billion pound railway building scheme ‘Crossrail’; in 2017 Reading will link via a totally new transport system directly to the City of London, The West End, Heathrow Airport, and a couple of places in east London you probably wouldn’t want to go to via new tunnels underneath the centre of London amongst the underground and sewers.

In addition to Crossrail, Reading Station is about to undergo it’s five hundred million redevelopment into a twenty first century super interchange to be completed by 2014 and forms part of the government’s one billion pound plan to electrify the line from Swansea and the West Country into London.

Green Park will be getting the first privately financed, permanent railway station in the south-east for 50 years further enhancing the Kennet Island project built to house the thousands of people needed to clean the windows at Green Park proper.

Junction 11 of the M4 will be bigger with an additional two bridges crossing the motorway enabling better public transport, cycling and pedestrian access and costing over sixty five million pounds. Completion is due late 2010.

The Ecotricity wind turbine and the Blade reach proudly into the sky greeting the eye from miles away which makes Reading stand out from sombre dumps like Maidenhead, Newbury and Slough. If I didn’t live in Reading, I’d move here.
