Oxfam relies on various methods of fundraising/aid including retail, collections and direct redistribution of clothing donated by the public in the UK to the needy in Africa and other poverty stricken areas.Other private ‘for profit’ companies also operate within the used clothing sector who pre-sort garments to sell for cash with the remaining less valuable items (to them) going to the rags and wipes suppliers for workshops and factories; their motives are primarily profit and generally not to help the poor. They effectively pre-cycle the clothes.
Over recent months Oxfam and other charitable organisations have had their clothing banks robbed on a regular basis in Reading, Berkshire by a company operating white, unmarked vans who have no charitable aims and clearly no morals.
If you see a white van man with his fat arse hanging out over the back of his jeans raking through a clothing bank – ask him who he works for?
