Reading Borough Council, having already cost the Council Tax payer tens of thousands of pounds wasted on a fleet of gas powered dustcarts that couldn’t be towed back to the depot when repeatedly breaking down, has proven its deserved qualification under BS 5750 that they’re incompetent, that they document that they’re incompetent and that they’re consistently incompetent. The latest fleet of lemons to drain the Council Tax coffers is the 14 bio-ethanol buses that led Labour’s Reading Borough Council’s bid for greenness. Unfortunately for RBC, their repeated claims pretending that the buses were powered on ethanol from sugar beet waste grown in Norfolk have been exposed as bullshit; the truth being that the fuel was derived from wood pulp and imported from Sweden – doh.
Now, even taking that expense into consideration, the Council’s cock up is made all the worse from revelations that the ecobus omniflops only achieve three and a half miles per gallon on bio-ethanol as opposed to six miles per gallon on regular diesel.
The engines could be rebuilt at a cost of two hundred grand however this would mean that each Council Tax payer could have caught taxis on benefits for less money. What a total fuck up - what a looney left Labour Council!
According to The University of Minnesota, states with high irrigation needs can take up to 2,100 gallons of water to produce one gallon of ethanol, derived from corn. These are mostly states with dry, warm climates and arid soils that require pumping in large quantities of water for irrigation.
