CWU PLAN ROYAL MAIL DESTRUCTION

The Royal Mail needs to change. No-one disagrees with that. It needs to modernise and become more streamlined akin to the companies that it’s competing against but without forgetting that it’s a public service delivering mail not just to London but to Huna, St Levan and Derryhooly.

The Communication Workers Union (CWU) seem to regard this fact as irrelevant and are pushing on with their plans to fuck up as many postal deliveries as possible to wind up the public; CWU official Kevin Beazer gloated "There is a hell of a backlog of up to a million items - in trailers, at Reading, and Oxford, and throughout the south west where action took place last week. Offices are stuffed with mail due to three 24-hour strikes over the past fortnight during which more than 800 workers walked out”.

Royal Mail has offered a 2.5 per cent one-year pay increase. The CWU wants £395.00 a week within five years — a rise of 27 per cent. The likelihood of the government throwing in the towel and leaving Deutcher Post to pick up the pieces with the potential of mass job cuts seems ever more likely.
