OTHER towns should be green with envy over Reading's ecocredentials, according to experts and campaigners.
Joe Doak, a senior lecturer in urban planning and development at Reading University and a member of the Green City Forum, said the borough should be proud of the community involvement in green projects.
He added: "Reading is lucky that the buses are still under the control of the council, and the fact they run partly on bio-fuel is laudable."
Green schemes in Reading include:
County's first compost toilet garden fertiliser
Reading’s Farmer’s Market on the first Saturday of each month has thrown it’s weight behind the scheme to grow organic vegetables in toilet compost by introducing a dedicated stand at every market until the end of the year.
Amongst other fresh fruit and nibbles on sale will be the award winning Tilehurst Tomarso and the now famous Reading Bumbay Mix. Sales of the Bugs Bottom Button mushrooms were sadly below expectations.

Farmers market only once a month? Get a life: you need to have it weekly to be credible, and also a monthly more specialist Slow Food Market.
Actually there are 2 a month at the moment, it would be great to have it weekly though. If your willing to travel, you could go to farmers markets most days, eg London, Wokingham...

No, I would only trust someone I felt was committed but ‘capable of doing the job’.
Labour has lost it’s way and their party is now past midnight with people starting to go home. The Conservatives are a flash in the pan and the Liberal Democrats are merely amusing.
The Green Party in my opinion are interesting, a nice concept and different but the idea of you running the economy scares me rigid.
